Clinic Microdermabrasion 1

Microdermabrasion, as distinct from ‘dermabrasion’, is a painless, hygienic and non-invasive cosmetic treatment (sometimes called the ‘lunch-time’ peel) that uses fine inert crystals that are accelerated onto the epidermal layer of the skin to abrade dead and damaged skin cells.

Once the abrasive process is completed a built-in vacuum whisks away both the crystals and the unwanted skin particles. New skin growth is subsequently stimulated resulting in a skin surface that is smoother, brighter, firmer and generally blemish free if a course of treatments is adhered to and carried out by a highly trained and experienced practitioner. Also, not all microdermabrasion treatments are the same.

Treatment includes proper cleansing of the area being treated and, if on the face, a relaxing calming mask is applied following. This is also an excellent time to nourish the skin with vitamin creams and serums due to penetration and absorbsion increases at up to five times the normal rate.

Individual factors such as age, genetics, hormonal balance and the lack of minerals, enzymes and vitamins all contribute to the rate of epidermal cellular turnover and renewal which effect the natural reproduction of new and healthy skin cells. On average our epidermal layer renews itself every four to six weeks. However, with aging and poor health, renewal is considerably slower.

Microdermabrasion initiates cellular turnover which in turn stimulates a reaction at both the epidermal and dermal levels to reproduce healthier cells that appear more elastic with a finer texture, improved natural colour and a firmer surface. Once adhered to, regular treatments, should continue to encourage new cells and result in a balance of the skins surface for long-term health of that skin area.

Benefits - The benefits are multiple and the results outstanding for:

  • Gentle exfoliation of tired and dull skin

  • Congested skin with open pores

  • Ageing and Sun-damaged skin*

  • Acne and break-out prone skin

  • Acne pitting

  • Deep frown and lip lines

  • Pigmentation marks*

  • Stretch marks

  • Scars and Age spots

  • Ageing Hands

  • Ingrown Hair blemishes

  • Blackheads & unclear complexion

* Melanocytes can extend into the actual dermis layer on people with sun exposed and darker skin and may not easily respond to treatments.

Although immediate results are visible after each and every treatment Microdermabrasion is not an overnight fix. However, optimal results can be achieved, with a series of three to ten individual treatments at one to three weeks apart depending on the needs of your skin.

Effects – depending on the area being treated the level of exfoliation can be adjusted so that the treatment is tolerable. A slight redness is normal but will generally fade within twenty four hours depending on the strength of the treatment chosen by the patient in consultation with the practitioner. Remember that the skin needs extra care & SPF30 is recommended at all times if exposed to the suns UVA/UVB rays.

A recommended course of six (6) starting from $660.00 ($110.00 each). Allow up to one hour for each treatment. No other treatment on the skin is recommended unless advised by your practitioner or doctor. Do not use sun beds (never) or sunbake during the time of treatment/s. Also, avoid swimming in chlorinated water during the next twenty four hours.
