What is Cosmetic Tattooing or Semi-Permanent Makeup?

Cosmetic Tattooing, also called 'Micropigmentation', is a popular well-tolerated cosmetic treatment involving the

controlled insertion of safe colour pigments into the dermis layer of the skin, instantly improving appearance, facial

definition and in most instances, a long lasting effect. Basically this is a cosmetic treatment that defines your

eyes, brows, lips and cheeks with a soft, natural appearance that looks, and stays looking, like perfectly applied

make-up or the most subtle of enhancements. All cosmetic tattooing will 'fade', or metabolise, to some degree

over time which is due to a number of individual factors.  Note: it is not legal in Australia to advertise these

procedures as 'permanent'.  Cosmetic Tattooing at this advanced level is all about Experience, Skill, Trust, Passion,

Compassion, Science and Art!  It is not just an extension of beauty therapy.

What is Medical Tattooing?

Medical Tattooing, is often a vital post treatment for patients who have undergone surgical treatments such as

brow lifts, face lifts, mastectomy and breast augmentation etc. Numerous cosmetic and plastic surgeons refer their

patients to Skinmedics Clinic for assistance in completing or enhancing procedures such as breast reconstructions,

face lifts and other skin injuries. Call now for a very confidential consultation.

How is cosmetic tattooing done?

With a small purpose-made cosmetic tattoo hand-held implanter. An advanced practitioner will utilise more than one implanting machine and variable needles appropriate to the clients individual needs. The depth of the pigment deposited is carefully and expertly regulated, making the procedure safe and controlled.

Is cosmetic tattooing right for me?

Everyone, from the young to the elderly, who desire a soft, natural or prominent enhancement to their appearance can benefit from skillfully applied cosmetic tattooing. Skinmedics has many male clients also.

Cosmetic tattooing is especially beneficial for people who:

  • Simply want to enhance their current features

  • Are unable to apply makeup

  • Have poor eyesight

  • Are busy and don't have time to spend on their makeup

  • Have unsteady hands

  • Suffer from eye allergies caused by makeup

  • Are on-stage and in the entertainment/modelling industry

  • Play sport and don't want to worry about 'sweating off' or re-applying makeup

  • Have thinning or no eyebrows

  • Have had a facelift or breast surgery

Is there discomfort involved?

The sensation can vary from person-to-person. A high quality topical anaesthetic is applied for the eye area procedures or a dental block is generally administered for lip tattooing to significantly reduce discomfort.

Do I need to take time off work, and are there side effects to cosmetic tattooing?

If there is any swelling this may last from two to seventy two hours. There may be some tenderness for a few days. The colour implanted will be darker than you would expect for the first 5-10 days. Most people do not need to take time off from their employment for eyebrow or eyeliner procedures - however, it may be advisable to take the day off if having your lips done.

Do I have a choice of colour or intensity?

The range of colours available is almost endless and can be custom tailored to suit every individual's needs. Results can be as understated or as dramatic as you prefer, creating a long lasting look to enhance your natural beauty. Skinmedics' practitioners are fully qualified colour specialists.

How permanent is cosmetic tattooing?

Even though this is a semi-permanent process, colour can be modified or changed. It has been known to last for many years but generally does 'fade', or metabolise over time and may require maintenance or 'Refresh' visits in the future. Please enquire about future 'refresh' procedures at a reduced cost to you*. *Conditions apply - Please call Skinmedics Reception for further details.
